As Salam Aleykum, a reminder to fast, this coming Thursday 25th is Ashura, or the 10th of Muharram, and it is Sunnah to fast on this day. It is also additionally Sunnah to add fasting on the day before (tomorrow Wednesday) OR Friday if one wishes a more complete virtue.
And in case you couldn't catch up fasting on Wednesday, you can also fast Friday if you wish in this case.
Scholars have said there are three levels of fasting on Ashura: the most complete is to fast the day before and the day after; next is to fast the ninth and tenth; and the minimum requirement to fulfill the Sunnah is to fast the tenth alone.
Fasting on the day of Ashura is a Sunnah, as narrated in the two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the day of Ashura, and fasting on it is not obligatory for you. I am fasting, so whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may not."
As for the reward for fasting on this day, it expiates the sins of the previous year, as mentioned in Sahih Muslim, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of Ashura, and he replied:
"It expiates the sins of the previous year."
