๐ŸŒ™ Ashura 1448 AH

Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, falls on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

This blessed day commemorates the day Allah swt saved Musa (AS) and the Children of Israel from Pharaoh. Out of gratitude to Allah swt, Musa (AS) fasted on this day, and our beloved Prophet ๏ทบ also fasted and encouraged his Ummah to do the same.

The Prophet ๏ทบ said:

"Fasting the day of Ashura, I hope from Allah swt that it will expiate the sins of the previous year."

(Sahih Muslim)

Although fasting on the 10th alone is valid and virtuous, the Prophet ๏ทบ encouraged adding another day to it. When he learned that the People of the Book also observed Ashura, he said:

"If I live until next year, we will certainly fast the ninth."

(Sahih Muslim)

Scholars explain that this was to distinguish the Muslim practice while preserving the special virtue of fasting on Ashura itself.

Recommended fasting options:

1๏ธโƒฃ 9th & 10th of Muharram (June 24 & 25)

This is the strongest and most established practice, based on the authentic hadith in which the Prophet ๏ทบ expressed his intention to fast the 9th along with the 10th.

2๏ธโƒฃ 10th & 11th of Muharram (June 25 & 26)

Many scholars recommended this as another way of accompanying the fast of Ashura with an additional day and distinguishing the Muslim practice from that of the People of the Book.

3๏ธโƒฃ 9th, 10th & 11th of Muharram (June 24, 25 & 26)

Many scholars, including Ibn al-Qayyim (RA), considered this the most complete observance of Ashura because it combines all of the reported recommendations regarding fasting before and after the 10th.

May Allah swt allow us to benefit from the blessings of Muharram, accept our fasting and worship, and grant forgiveness, mercy, and guidance to us all.

Ameen.
