COMMUNITY APPEAL
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

A family in our IOST community has experienced a catastrophic loss due to a fire at their farm.

Donations at gofundme: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-our-family-after-a-tragic-farm-fire-loss

This is what they have shared about this tragedy:

Our family recently experienced a devastating farm fire that has heavily impacted us. The barn on the side was home to around 40 goats, most of whom tragically burned alive, with only a few surviving. The loss of our goats has been especially heartbreaking for us.

We still don’t know what caused the fire, but the flames destroyed our entire warehouse of garages filled with farm equipment, an excavator, tractors, and other machines. A working mechanic garage filled with tools also burned in the fire.

This loss has been overwhelming for us. Our farm is fairly new, and we have spent the past two years getting it to where it is now. The memories we made together on the farm, enjoying the outdoors and caring for our animals, are irreplaceable. We are now faced with the challenge of rebuilding and trying to recover from this tragedy.

The funds raised will go directly toward rebuilding and replacing the equipment lost in the fire, so we can begin to restore our farm and move forward. We are so grateful for any support, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing our story. Thank you for helping us during this difficult time.

COMMUNITY APPEAL

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

The Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier (IOST) shares a message from a member of the community recovering from a tragedy, we urge the community to keep the brother and his family in mind during these difficult times.

"Help Us Recover from a Devastating Fire

On February 9th, around 1:30–2:00 PM, my wife and I received a phone call that no homeowner ever wants to receive: my brother called to tell us that our home was on fire.

At the time, we were overseas so my wife could spend time with her family after not seeing them for a long time. Hearing that your home is burning while being thousands of miles away and unable to do anything is a feeling I would not wish on anyone. We had tenants living in the home at the time to help cover expenses while I was unable to work. They were a hardworking family with two young children who always paid their rent and took care of the home. The fire department later determined that the fire was accidental, but the damage left behind was devastating.

After returning home two weeks ago, I contacted my insurance provider, Broome County Co-Operative Insurance Company, hoping they would help cover the damage. Unfortunately, I was told that my policy did not include the type of coverage needed for a home with tenants living in it. I also reached out to my local insurance agent, who tried contacting them again on my behalf, but I was told there was nothing more they could do...."
