Islamic Center of Scranton

Members of our community are invited to join people from all faith traditions at the Faith250 event on Tuesday September 15 at the Islamic Center of Scranton, where Emma Lazarus’ poem “The New Colossus <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Colossus> ,” will be the focus. 

All events are free and open to all, but  RSVPs are required.

Several ICS community members attended the first Faith 250 gathering including our Imam and family and it would be wonderful to have more Muslims sharing their views and stories at these events. 

More than one hundred people gathered around small tables, sharing honest, deep conversations about our nation’s past, present and future. People from some 20 faith traditions, or none at all, from new immigrants to third generation Scrantonians, from a few children under 12 to people in their 80s. People left feeling more hope than when they came after discussing the lyrics to America the Beautiful.

We are thrilled to announce that the Islamic Center of Scranton (ICS) Board of Directors Elections are right around the corner!
As our community grows, we are entering a pivotal new chapter and looking for responsible, community-oriented, and leadership-driven individuals to step forward. We need dedicated leaders who are ready to build on our foundation, elevate our programs, and guide our community to the next level during this upcoming cycle of leadership.

* Open Board Positions: 6 Seats available (A minimum of 2 positions are guaranteed to female nominees).
* Nomination Window: Open Now and closing strictly on Sunday, November 8th.
* Elections Close: Sunday, December 6th at 8:00 PM.

How Voting Will Work
To ensure maximum accessibility and participation across our entire community, voting will take place through two components:
* Online Voting: Access details will be provided so community members can cast their vote electronically.
* In-Person Paper Ballots: Secure election boxes will be set up at the mosque (in both the main hall and the sisters' pavilion). Paper ballots will be available during Friday Jumu'ah services on November 20th, November 27th, and December 4th.
Nominee Outreach & Engagement
To ensure transparency and allow the community to get to know all candidates, nominees will have opportunities to introduce themselves and share their vision prior to the close of elections.
> Note: Board members will maintain neutrality throughout this process and will not endorse specific candidates to ensure a fair and equitable election for everyone.
